Create a Klaviyo sending profile
A sending profile is the sender a journey uses for one channel. Email and SMS on the same Klaviyo connection share one flow, triggered by the JustAI Send Message event. The flow sends the email branch when the event’s channel is email, and the SMS branch when it is sms.
For email, JustAI can create the flow and template from the sender you enter. For SMS, you add the SMS message to that same flow in Klaviyo. The connection page shows the values to copy and the screens to follow. Use those values, not the sample text in any screenshot.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- Klaviyo is connected. See Connect Klaviyo.
- You can edit flows and templates in that Klaviyo account.
- For email, you have a sender address on your organization’s domain. Klaviyo fills in your organization’s name and mailing address from the Klaviyo account, so check that address in Klaviyo before you send.
- For SMS, SMS is enabled in Klaviyo and you have a test phone number that has consented to SMS from that account.
Create an email profile
Section titled “Create an email profile”On the Klaviyo connection, under Shared sending flow, select Add sending profile.
-
Under 1. Name the profile, set Channel to Email and enter a Profile name, for example
Journey delivery. -
Under 2. Confirm your sender, enter the Sender name, Sender email, and, if you want replies to go somewhere else, Reply-to email (optional).
Use a sender email address on your organization’s domain.
-
Select Create delivery flow.
JustAI creates a draft flow and template in Klaviyo. To build the flow yourself instead, select Use an existing Klaviyo flow, then follow What the flow has to do.
-
Follow the review steps on the page to set the flow to Manual for a first test, or Live for journey sends.
Manual holds each email in Klaviyo until someone approves it. It is only for tests. Journey sends need the flow and the email set to Live.
-
Back in JustAI, check the profile, then send a test to an inbox you can open.
If the message is Manual, approve it in Klaviyo first. Open the email and follow the confirmation link while you are signed in to JustAI.
After a confirmed test, a Live profile shows Ready to send. A confirmed test on a profile that is still Manual shows Activation needed. Set the flow and email to Live, check the profile again, and send a new test.
Create an SMS profile
Section titled “Create an SMS profile”Select Add sending profile again and set Channel to SMS. A connection has one email profile and one SMS profile. SMS uses the email profile’s flow when that flow already exists. Don’t create a second flow.
-
On the setup steps, select Create the JustAI event if Klaviyo does not already have the JustAI Send Message event.
-
Open the shared flow in Klaviyo. Leave trigger filters and flow filters empty, and allow people to enter every time the event occurs.
-
Add an SMS branch for the channel property shown on the JustAI page. The matching value is
sms. Put one SMS message on that branch and end the branch after that message. -
Set the SMS body to the expression JustAI shows. Turn Smart Sending off, leave transactional sending off, and keep quiet hours and Klaviyo’s opt-out language. Don’t add an organization prefix, an information link, extra recipients, filters, or media.
-
Set the flow and the SMS to Live for journey sends, or Manual for a first test. Save the profile in JustAI, send a test to your phone, and enter the confirmation code from the text.
What the flow has to do
Section titled “What the flow has to do”JustAI checks the flow before the profile can send. The connection page lists anything that still fails. The flow needs all of these:
- Its trigger is the JustAI Send Message metric from this connection.
- People can enter every time that event occurs. There is no once-only limit and no waiting period between entries.
- Trigger filters and flow filters are empty.
- A channel split reads the channel property on the event, not a property on the person’s Klaviyo profile. The email branch matches
email. The SMS branch matchessms. - Each branch has one message and then ends. There are no delays, extra messages, or other conditions.
- The email uses the subject, preview text, and HTML template from the event, including the Klaviyo unsubscribe link and your organization’s name and mailing address. Don’t add another header or content blocks around that HTML.
- Smart Sending is off, so Klaviyo doesn’t skip a JustAI message because the person recently received something else.
The HTML template JustAI shows already includes the unsubscribe link and the organization address. Keep both. JustAI does not add them to the email content it supplies.
Use the profile in a journey
Section titled “Use the profile in a journey”Open the journey and select Settings. Under Delivery, choose this Klaviyo connection and the sending profile for the channel that step sends. A journey can use the profile after it shows Ready to send.
