Set up the content data feed
The content data feed is an Iterable data feed that points at JustAI. When a JustAI campaign sends, Iterable calls the content data feed to fetch the subject, preheader, and body that JustAI prepared for that person. A feed token, which JustAI generates, protects the content data feed. When you finish, the connection’s Content data feed step reads Data feed #<id>.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- The connection’s API key is saved. Until it is, the Content data feed step reads “Save an API key first.” See Add your Iterable project.
- You can create data feeds in the Iterable project.
Create the content data feed
Section titled “Create the content data feed”In JustAI, open the connection in Settings > Integrations and expand the Content data feed step. Then follow these steps in order.
-
In the Content data feed step, select the Data feeds link.
Iterable’s data feeds page opens.
-
In Iterable, select New data feed.
-
Name the data feed
JustAI content feed.JustAI shows this name with a copy button. Use the exact name. You look for it by this name when you set up SMS and push profiles.
-
In JustAI, copy the URL under Paste this URL: and paste it into the data feed’s URL in Iterable.
Paste the whole URL without changes. It ends with Iterable merge tags in double curly braces, which Iterable fills in for each send.
-
Leave the data feed format as JSON.
-
In JustAI, select Generate token, then copy the feed token that appears.
-
In Iterable, paste the feed token into Authorization token.
-
Select Create data feed in Iterable.
Iterable adds
JustAI content feedto its list of data feeds. -
In Iterable’s list of data feeds, copy the ID of
JustAI content feed.JustAI shows a picture of the ID column to help you find it.
-
In JustAI, paste the ID into the field below the picture. The empty field shows
12345. -
Select Save data feed.
The step summary changes to
Data feed #<id>and shows a check mark.
JustAI attaches JustAI content feed to every email template it creates for this connection, with data feed caching off. You attach it yourself to SMS and push templates. See Create a sending profile.
Check your work
Section titled “Check your work”The Content data feed step shows a check mark and reads Data feed #<id>. The number matches the ID of JustAI content feed in Iterable.
If the step shows a different summary, use this table.
| Step summary | What to do |
|---|---|
| “Save an API key first.” | Save the connection’s API key. See Add your Iterable project. |
| “Register the feed in Iterable and save its id.” | Create the data feed in Iterable, then paste its ID and select Save data feed. |
| “Save changes to use this feed.” | You typed an ID but did not save it. Select Save data feed. |
| “Generate a token and paste it into the data feed.” | The ID is saved, but no feed token exists. Select Generate token and paste the token into Authorization token in Iterable. |
Data feed #<id> |
The step is done. |
The first test email from a sending profile gets its content through the content data feed. If that email arrives with its Click here to confirm link, the content data feed works.
Replace the feed token
Section titled “Replace the feed token”Replace the feed token if you lost it before you pasted it into Iterable, or when your security policy requires a new one.
-
In Iterable, open
JustAI content feedfrom Data feeds. -
In JustAI, in the connection’s Content data feed step, select Generate a new token.
JustAI asks “Generate a new token?” and warns that the current token stops working.
-
Select Generate new token, then copy the new feed token.
-
In Iterable, replace the value in Authorization token with the new feed token.
-
Save the data feed in Iterable.
Keep the content data feed in place
Section titled “Keep the content data feed in place”After the connection has sending profiles, JustAI does not let you change its feed ID. Every JustAI template on the connection reads from JustAI content feed. Don’t delete it or point it at a different URL in Iterable. If you need a different data feed for this project, talk to your JustAI team.
Common mistakes
Section titled “Common mistakes”| Mistake | Result | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The URL was edited, or the merge tags at its end were removed. | Iterable can’t fetch the prepared message, so the message is not sent. | Copy the URL from JustAI again and paste it without changes. |
| The URL or feed token came from another connection or environment. | Iterable can’t fetch the prepared message, so the message is not sent. | Copy both values from the connection you are setting up. |
| An existing data feed was reused, including another data feed that points at JustAI. | Iterable calls a URL that does not serve this connection’s messages. | Create a new data feed named JustAI content feed for this connection. |
| A new feed token was generated, but Iterable still has the old one. | Messages are not sent. | Paste the newest feed token into Authorization token in Iterable. |
| The JustAI page was closed before the feed token was copied. | The feed token is no longer shown. | Select Generate a new token and paste the new one into Iterable. |
| The ID of another data feed was saved. | JustAI templates use the wrong data feed, and messages go out blank or wrong. | Before you create any sending profiles, copy the ID from the JustAI content feed row and save it. If the connection already has sending profiles, JustAI doesn’t let you change the ID. Talk to your JustAI team. |
